ABOUT YOU, THE PLAYER BEHIND THE CHARACTER
Your age: 30

Your nationality: Belgian

Your gender: Male

Can you use Vent and do you have a microphone (you don't need to speak to join but we do need you to listen):
I have vent installed and a working headset. And yes, you will be able to make fun of my accent ;)

How long have you been playing WOW: about 3 years now

Will you be able to attend the raids (answer yes, no or maybe):
Monday 20.15-23.00: Yes
Tuesday 20.15-23.00: Yes
Thursday 20.15-23.00: Yes

ABOUT YOUR CHARACTER

Well, this won’t be a normal application. Maybe I should start by mentioning a couple of things. I read the “Read this before you apply” thread and it mentioned that when you applied you should choose a main character.
Now, I haven’t played Wow since about February or so. Back then my main was my Protection Paladin. However, for the entirety of Wotlk my main was a balance druid. I don’t mind playing either, depening on what the guild needs I will choose one. For the sake of this application I’ll make the paladin my main as she’s the last character I played.

Character name: Mesmo

Character class: Paladin

Character ilevel: 356 ish

How long have you been level 85 (use /played in-game): I will check this tonight as I’m at the office at the moment.

Character spec (please explain why you chose this spec): Protection
At the end of the previous expansion I decided to level an alt. My main had been a moonkin and tanking sounded like a challenge. We had no warrior tanks in the guild to get advice from, deathknights were out because I really wanted to level a toon from scratch, I already had a drood, and together with having a few great pala tanks in the guild settled it. When Cata was released I decided to make the tank my main to help with the lack of tanks issue in the guild.

Which glyphs are you using, and why:

Glyph of hammer of the righteous: makes AoE tanking a lot easier ;) AoE and holy damage increase = more threat
Glyph of Seal of truth: I guess that some glyphs are better then others but that doesn’t mean you benefit a lot from it. This particular one raises your Expertise rating, which makes an opponent less likely to dodge your attack. This results in a increase in dps. Next to mastery, dodge and parry expertise is the next important stat for a prot pala.
Glyph of shield of the righteous: Again a single target dps increase

What do you think is important for your character to focus on:
Tanks and survivability ;-) In the very beginning of Cata AOE tanking proved to be a challenge. Consecration made sure your mana was gone in two ticks, so you had to change things around. The most important number for a pala tank is 102.4% though. This numer is the total avoidance threshold as EJ likes to call it. This means that any regular hit you receive has to go through a block, reducing damage by quite a lot. I have a makro that calculates all that  However, when I quit Wow it was not possible to reach the threshold with BWD and BoT gear. I think Firelands Heroic makes it possible now.

Do you have an offspec, and do you have gear for it:
Yes and no. I have two tankspecs :p I don’t really remember why, but it had to do with it being easier for a certain raid.

Character tradeskill professions and levels:
My Paladin has both. Jewelcrafting and Enchanting on Max level
My druid has both Herbing and Alchemy on max level.

Make sure to give us an armory link using the armory button above inserting your character name between the tags (please log off in your PvE gear):

What sets you aside from other applicants:
Love the question! ;-) I can only think of what I’ve done in my previous guild. I think I can be an asset to the guild. I will axplain most in my answer to the question: Why you left previous guilds.

Previous guild(s): Memento Vivere and Core of the Alliance.

Reason(s) why you left previous guild(s):
I’ve only been in Core of the alliance for a few weeks and I’m still a member.
I’ve been in Memento Vivere for almost 3 years. I got a spot thanks to a RL friend. I was pretty noobish when I joined the guild but almost right after joining I got a chance to go to a raid with them (Ulduar). I loved that very much and soon became a regular in the team. We raided 3 nights a week on 10 man and every Friday Night on 25 man. We went right through to Totc where our raidleader decided he would quit. Although very unexperienced in Wow I decided to give it a shot and stuck some raids on the calendar. Before we knew it we were standing at the gates of Ice Crown Citadel, ready and pumped to kick some *ss.
We went right in there, raided for 2 nights a week, but managed to be the 7th guild on the server to kill Sindragosa. We were a well oiled machine I have to say ;-) However, after having killed Sindragosa some people wanted to extend ID’s to kill the LK asap. Others wanted to start fresh every week. It all happened really fast and people stopped playing, didn’t sign, had a burn out etc. We didn’t raid for a couple of months and went back to kill the LK after all.
Cataclysm. As soon as Cataclysm was released I resumed my role as raidleader, stuck some BWD’s on the calendar and we almost got the same team back. We raided BWD twice a week and BoT once.
We did well untill the exact same thing happened as in Wotlk. People got tired of the game really soon and the group fell apart, people quit Wow altogether.
I felt like the guild and guildleaders could’ve done more to support their raiding team. To them the raiders represented a minority in their guild and were therefor less important. Out of the 6 or 7 officers in the guild there were 5 people from my team, including myself. So I think raiding was more important to the guild as they thought it was. This was an issue that was long going. Whenever we asked to recruit healers of tanks because we had to cancel raids every week because of the lack of them, the answer was “There are plenty”. When we asked for a better loot system for the 25 man raids the answer was no. Imagine this: there is one ‘hardcore’ raiding team in the guild. They read tactics, posted tactics, watched video’s, knew their class, changed specs and rotations etc. All of them signed for the 25 raid, knowing at least 10 others would be undergeared, low dps or healing, didn’t know their class etc. Now, when 3 of your best dps never got a token from Saurfang and 3 of your worst dps even got them for their alts, I think some won’t be happy.
Anyways, these are some of the things that made me decide to leave. I have written guides, tactics, I have made videos of our tactics and kills, helped with gear and stat questions etc. That’s why I think it won’t be that bad to have me in your mids 

Reasons why you would like to join:
It’s hard to say when you don’t really know a guild. My answer to the last question will answer that.

Were all of the above characters levelled by you from the start? Yep, from scratch.

Any alts you would like to join with. Mesmo = Pala Raissmo = Druid. Tesmo is my hunter I’m currently leveling. He’s 38 ;-)
Are there any people in the guild that you know:
Yeah. Psychopathz, my brother. He joined a few weeks ago  He’s the one who told me The Devils Backbone is a great, fun and most of all well organised guild.
What I’m looking for right now is to get either the palading or druid geared and ready for the last raid of the expansion 

Thanks for reading this wall of text :)

Edit: I just realised my post lacked any form of humor. [Insert random joke here] There you go
